Money is for War Silly People...Not Aid and Relief
CNN.com - Stingy Americans? U.N. official's comment hits nerve - Dec 28, 2004
First of all, this tsunami was incredible in its devestation and size. I suspect the mighty winds we experienced the other night had something to do with the quake off of Indonesia that set off the waves that are leading to astronomical numbers of dead and injured. Mother Nature is a bitch when she bites back and has a terrifying way of thinning out the population.
Aside from all that is the irony, somewhat pathetic, that of all the other countries America is slow to offer relief but promises it is there if needed. Instead, I come across three different websites asking US citizens to donate money. ???? Sooooooo, the government will approve spending in the billions for war at the drop of a pin, but the tsunami victims have to wait for aid and relief that MIGHT be in the low millions and has to come fromthe people, not the government. Hmmm....and we wonder why other countries hate or deride the US. This country continously makes itself the object of all kinds of criticism. We will spend money to kill "terrorists" (or the "other") as well as our own but can't seem to move fast enough for relief efforts. This should not be surprising considering that many Floridians are still suffering from the devstations of a nasty hurricane season with no quick aid or help, economic or otherwise, in sight. Yes, let us keep this in mind the next time we offer to put an idiot into office, let him screw up the country, and then put him back in again.
If only tsunamis were prevalent in the US....sigh....
